Youth Café meets once a month, on the second Thursday of the month. It is peer-led by Ms. Alexis Lanning, who is a Certified Peer Specialist for youth.

The Café model is a Peer Support where youth attend, and have conversations. It is a safe space, where they can interact, learn, create and find out more about the protective factors.

These conversations help youth thrive and the main goal is for them to feel safe, and create meaningful connections.

How it works:

The cafés have monthly meetings, and a light dinner is provided.

The conversations are held in a safe space that encourages self-reflection and peer-to-peer learning. The conversation can be lead by using the #WoWTalk (Words of Wisdom) Cafés for youth and emerging adults. These questions generate conversations that help build the Youth ThriveTM Protective and Promotive Factors. There is an activity that allows youth to create, or speak about something that matters to them.

The Protective factors include:

- Personal resilience.

- Social connections.

- Knowledge of adolescent development.

- Concrete support in times of need.

- Cognitive and social-emotional competence.

Explore Georgia's Free Your Feels campaign, empowering youth to express feelings and access mental health support.

Launched by Voices for Georgia's Children and Georgia's Department of Behavioral Health, along with incredible partners, the Free Your Feels campaign helps Georgia’s children, teens, and young adults stay mentally healthy by expressing their feelings with peers, parents, teachers, and most importantly, themselves.

Through customized awareness materials, curated educational resources, and signature events and programs like the Free Your Feels Teen Summit and school-based peer-to-peer wellness groups, we aim to increase mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage Georgia’s youth to express their real feelings and seek support, while guiding caregivers and adults to listen and help.

CHRIS 180 has been at the forefront of behavioral health and child welfare service delivery since 1981 when the organization was first established as Georgia CHARLEE (Children Have All Rights-Legal, Educational, and Emotional) to fill a gap in services for children and youth with behavioral and emotional challenges who were not thriving in foster homes and needed small specialized group homes. In 1986, the organization recognized another gap in services and created Georgia’s first independent living program to help youth aging out of foster care. Then in 1992, Georgia CHARLEE became CHRIS Homes representing the core values of Creativity, Honor, Respect, Integrity and Safety.
